- Accommodation
- Hotel Los Lagos is our home away from home in Costa Rica. All rooms are doubles and consist of private bathrooms, air-conditioning, cable television, refrigerators, and safety deposit boxes. The hotel provides amenities such as daily housekeeping, swimming pools, natural hot springs, full-service restaurant, hiking trails, gift shop, and laundry facilities. During the weekend excursion to Guanacaste, we stay at the beautiful Tamarindo Diria (for more information, see the Weekend Excursions page).
- Meals
- While staying at Hotel Los Lagos, our group eats most meals at the hotel. There is always a variety of choices at every meal, from American-style options to traditional Costa Rican cuisine. Occasionally we will dine in town, allowing our summer community service participants to enjoy local flavor. During our weekend excursion, 3 meals per day are provided at our hotel and in local restaurants. There is always something to eat for every type of diet.
- Staff
- Our summer community service staff members are teachers and graduate students who are committed to Project Cost Rica’s ideals of volunteering and giving back to the global community. Rein Community Service staff members are always present at each service site. All staff members attend our professional training workshops where the emphasis is placed on the safety and well being of our teenage volunteers. Program leaders are trained in Basic First Aid and CPR. Our bi-lingual volunteer coordinators additionally staff all service sites.
- Transportation
- Project Costa Rica Community Service uses professionally driven buses and vans to transfer our participants to their various projects and activities. For longer drives, we utilize professionally driven coach buses. There is no additional fee for transporting participants to and from Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose.
- Communication
- The Rein Communication Center is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week throughout the program. Teenagers are permitted to bring cell phones and can use wifi when available.

- While in La Fortuna, Hotel Los Lagos is our home away from home. All rooms are doubles and consist of private bathrooms, air-conditioning, cable television, refrigerators, and safety deposit boxes. The hotel provides amenities such as daily housekeeping, swimming pools, natural hot springs, and full-service restaurant. While in Monteverde we stay at Hotel Heliconia, a cozy mountain lodge. All rooms are doubles and consist of private bathrooms, fans, wardrobes, and garden views. During our visit to Playa Carillo we call Nammbu Beachfront Bungalows our home, where each room consists of two beds, air-conditioning, private bathrooms, and Wi-Fi.
- Meals

Hawaiian / Alaskan Adventure
Hawaiian / Alaskan Adventure is the ultimate summer teen tour adventure. Our journey to the Lands of Ice and Tropical Paradise begins as we jet to San Francisco. In San Francisco it’s cable car rides, Fisherman’s Wharf, Lombard Street and Ghirardelli ice cream sundaes.
The action continues as summer teen tour travelers enjoy action-packed days water-skiing and tubing in Lake Tahoe. Next, we’ll visit the beautiful campus of the University of Oregon, take an outrageous Sandrail Dune Buggy Ride across the sand dunes of Oregon, and share a thrilling jet boat trip down the Rogue River.
Next, your teen tour adventure heads to Seattle for Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the Museum of Pop Culture. From there we take in the sights of Vancouver and Whistler, including the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Granville, and a high-speed Zipline Canopy tour in the mountains.
After several power-packed days on the Pacific Coast, our teen tour flies to Alaska where we’ll enjoy the beauty, grandeur, and excitement of the 49th state. Our time in the “land of the midnight sun” includes Fairbanks, Denali National Park, and Anchorage. In Denali National Park and Fairbanks, we’ll raft the most popular whitewater river in Alaska, visit a dogsledding base camp, and find gold on our gold panning adventure. In Anchorage we’ll see glaciers and icebergs up close on our glacier boat trip, kayak on a stunning turquoise lake, reach new heights at the top of Mt. Alyeska, and tour a wildlife conservation center. During our time in Alaska, we’ll be mesmerized by the abundant beauty and wildlife all around us, including bear, moose, caribou, dall sheep, and whales.
Our Hawaiian/Alaskan Adventure tour finally heads to the land of paradise as we jet to Maui to begin the Hawaiian leg of our summer teen tour adventure. A great day of snorkeling awaits us as our 65-foot catamaran sails to the Molokini Crater. We’ll enjoy a fun waterslide and superb snorkeling amongst colorful tropical fish and giant sea turtles.
Our short jet flight takes us to the “Big Island” where we will soak up the sun at our outrageous resort. We’ll tour the Big Island, visit Volcanoes National Park and run barefoot on the Black Sand Beaches.
The last five nights of your summer teen paradise are spent on the island of Oahu with two great hotel stops on both the North Shore and Waikiki Beach. Visit the Pearl Harbor Visitor’s Center and enjoy the view from the top of Diamond Head. Dive 100 feet below the ocean’s surface on our out-of-this-world Submarine Trip. Professional Surfing lessons on Waikiki Beach will make the final day of our summer teen tour unforgettable!
You’ll board our regularly scheduled jet for our flight home with your new teen tour friends and unbelievable memories of your summer teen tour adventure to the 49th and 50th states.
Italy and The Greek Islands
Our 22-day tour through Italy and the Greek Islands begins as we travel with our new friends to Milan, epicenter of fashion and one of the most visited cities in the world. We’ll climb to the rooftops of the iconic Duomo di Milano, visit the historic Sforza Castle, and pass by historic bridges and colorful buildings on our bike ride along the Naviglio Grande canal. Our next stop is breathtaking Venice, a city covering 118 islands connected by over 400 bridges. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime moonlit gondola ride along Venice’s canals, visit St. Mark’s Basilica, marvel at Doge’s Palace, and enjoy a late-night gelato in the famous Piazza San Marco.
Next up is fabulous Florence, bustling with industry, commerce, culture, and art. Marvel at the famous David at Galleria dell’ Academia, wander through the serene Boboli Gardens, learn to cook like a pro at our Italian cooking class, and enjoy the sunset views from Piazza Michelangelo. We’ll spend a relaxing day in the Tuscan countryside touring the quaint streets of Siena and the beautiful medieval village of San Gimignano. Our final stop in Italy is the Eternal City of Rome, home to unparalleled history and a treasure trove of amazing sites. We’ll check out the Colosseum where the gladiators once fought, stroll down the ancient Roman Forum, step inside the Pantheon, tour St. Peter’s Basilica, and watch the world go by as we spend time together on the Spanish Steps.
Onward to the fabled Greek Islands, a diverse and enchanting collection of unique islands scattered throughout the Aegean Sea. Our first stop is Santorini, famous for its caldera and considered one of the most stunning and iconic of the Greek islands. You’ll never forget the views of the whitewashed buildings and blue domes of Fira and Oia, two awe-inspiring towns perched along the cliffs of the caldera. Visit the black sand beaches of Kamari, relax at our resort’s pools, and get ready for a most beautiful evening during our sunset catamaran cruise. We’ll board our ferry for our next stop, the lush island of Naxos, offering a rich blend of history, culture, and stunning natural beauty. Enjoy sunning on postcard perfect Agios Prokopios Beach, stroll through the perfect whitewashed alleyways of the old town, visit bucolic mountain towns, learn how to make delicious local dishes at our Greek cooking class, and enjoy the sunset from the ancient Temple of Apollo.
Across the sea we go to our final island, picture-perfect Paros, known for its picturesque villages, beautiful beaches, and rich cultural heritage. We’ll relax on the soothing white-sand beaches, learn to ride the waves during our awesome wind-surfing lessons, walk through charming mountain villages, and enjoy time in the cosmopolitan towns of Parikia and Naoussa. The final stop on our incredible journey is the vibrant and bustling capital of Greece, ancient Athens. We’ll visit the awe-inspiring Acropolis, tour the ancient Agora, check out the hip and happening Plaka neighborhood, and stroll through Monastiraki Square.
We’ll enjoy our farewell dinner as we reminisce with our new friends about our amazing summer exploring Italy and the Greek Islands.
Discover Costa Rica
The goal of the Discover Costa Rica program is for our participants to not only help the local communities but to also learn about themselves and to grow through their experiences. Upon completion of Discover Costa Rica, each participant will receive a certificate recognizing 40 HOURS of SUMMER COMMUNITY SERVICE. Our volunteer projects and cultural experiences are designed to create meaningful bonds between our participants and the people they are working with throughout the experience.
- Group Size
- The Discover Costa Rica program accommodates up to 30 participants, which fosters expanded social interactions and friendships within the group during all our activities.
- Accommodations
- During the Discover Costa Rica program, our participants stay in safe, secure, and centrally located hotels and lodges that reflect the local character of each part of the country that we visit. All our accommodations provide amenities and facilities that allow for a comfortable stay and a good night’s sleep.
- Meals
- The group typically eats in local restaurants and in our hotels. No matter where we are, there is always an option for every type of diet.
- Staff
- Our staff members are teachers and graduate school students who are committed to our ideals of volunteering, exploring, and learning from different cultures. Rein staff members are always present at each service site and all activities. All staff members attend our professional training workshops where the emphasis is placed on the safety and well-being of our teenage participants. Program leaders are trained in Basic First Aid and CPR. All service sites are additionally staffed by local bi-lingual volunteer coordinators.
- Transportation
- We use professionally driven buses to transport our participants to their various volunteer projects and activities.
Eastern Europe Adventure
Our 20-day tour begins as we travel together to the fairytale city of Prague, Czech Republic. Get your cameras ready as we explore the enchanting Prague Castle, walk across the famous Charles Bridge, participate in an awesome Graffiti Workshop, and explore the historical Jewish Quarter. Next, we head to Krakow, the former royal capital of Poland. Marvel at the beautiful Town Square from your Horse Drawn Carriage. Get ready for a somber, emotional, and thought-provoking day as we take a guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest of the WWII concentration camps.
Our next stop is Vienna, the magnificent Imperial City of Austria. Enjoy a fun-filled evening at Prater Amusement Park, take in the sites at the royal Schoenbrunn Palace, and learn the art of cooking at our private Viennese Cooking Class. Next up – bustling Budapest. We’ll enjoy a thrilling Monsteroller Tour, go Caving Under Budapest, and tour the amazing Castle District and energetic Jewish Quarter. Our journey continues to the awe-inspiring alpine beauty of the outdoor capital of Lake Bled, Slovenia. After a visit to the imposing Bled Castle, the adrenaline will be pumping as you tackle a thrilling Canyoning Adventure and the fun-filled Dolinka Zip-line.
The excitement builds as we head to one of the most popular destinations in the world, Croatia! After a stop in Zagreb, it is on to one of the most beautiful parks in Europe, Plitvice Lakes National Park. We’ll hike over the boardwalks as we take in the amazing views of gurgling streams, teeming waterfalls, and unspoiled nature. Next up is the Dalmatian Coast and the charming seaside city of Split. Wander the ancient alleyways of Diocletian’s Palace, get soaked during our Cetina Canyon Whitewater Raft Adventure, and enjoy the street musicians along the Split Waterfront. Our final stop is the famous Walled City of Dubrovnik. Take in the views during a sea kayaking adventure in the emerald, blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, relax on Dubrovnik’s beautiful beaches, and walk the City Walls surrounding the ancient Old Town.
We’ll enjoy our farewell dinner as we reminisce with our new friends about our amazing summer exploring Eastern Europe.

Project Hawaii
- Group Size
- The Project Hawaii summer community service program accommodates 20-25 participants, which fosters expanded social interactions and friendships within the group during evening activities and weekend excursions. Depending on the specific site, each service project will consist of 10-20 participants. This enables our teenagers to benefit from small group and one-on-one interaction at the service project.
- Accommodations
- During the week, the Doubletree Grand Naniloa Hotel is our home away from home. Enjoy the beautiful banyan tree grounds and the relaxing bay-front views of our hotel, the nearby zen pathways at Liliuokalani Japanese Gardens, and views of Mauna Kea standing in the distance. All rooms are doubles and have private bathrooms, air-conditioning and flat screen tvs with cable-television. Our participants enjoy hotel amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness center, full service restaurant, free wifi, gift shop and more.
During the week, our group eats breakfast and dinner together at our hotel. Lunch is provided at the various service projects.
After volunteering each day, we will enjoy many different late afternoon options. Some late afternoons will include relaxing at the hotel pool, exercising at the hotel gym, walking or running along the trails of Liliuokalani Gardens, or using the hotel wifi to catch up with family and friends. Other late afternoons will include field trips to exciting local sites such as: Volcanoes National Park, the local Farmers Market, hikes in the rainforest to see beautiful waterfalls, etc. Every evening, enjoy various group activities, including authentic Hawaiian Cultural Activities, nights at the movies, etc.

- During the week, our group eats breakfast and dinner together at our hotel’s restaurant. Lunch is provided at the various service projects. While traveling on weekends, breakfast and dinner are provided in various local restaurants and food establishments at our hotels. On occasion we divide into smaller groups allowing teenagers to choose from a greater variety of restaurants.
- Staff
- Our summer community staff members are teachers and graduate students who are committed to Project Hawaii’s ideals of volunteering and giving back to the community. Rein staff members are always present at each service project. All staff members attend our professional training workshops where the emphasis is placed on the safety and well being of our teenagers. All staff are certified in Basic First Aid and CPR.
- Transportation
- Rein Project Hawaii uses bus transportation with professional drivers to transfer our participants to their various projects, activities, and weekend excursions.
- Activities
- After volunteering each day, enjoy different late afternoon activities including relaxing at the hotel pool, walking or jogging along the trails of nearby Liliuokalani Japanese Gardens, or using the wifi in the lobby to catch up with family and friends. Afternoon fun also includes local field trips to the rainforest where we hike to beautiful waterfalls, exciting trips to Volcanoes National Park and Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and the local Farmers Market. The group will enjoy a fun evening activity every night, including: our authentic cultural immersion program two nights each week, a night at the movies, Rein’s famous Minute to Win It competition, and lots of other fun local evening activities. On our weekend excursions, activities include snorkeling, surfing lessons, trips to Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head, etc.

Project Ecuador, The Amazon & Galapagos Islands

- The Project Ecuador program accommodates up to 26 participants, which fosters expanded social interactions and friendships within the group during all of our activities.
- Accommodations
- During the Project Ecuador program, our participants stay in safe, secure, and centrally located hotels and lodges that reflect the local character of each part of the country that we visit. All of our accommodations provide amenities and facilities that allow for comfort and a good night’s sleep.
- Meals
- While in Quito, our group enjoys the great full breakfast buffet at the JW Marriott, and lunch and dinner are eaten at various restaurants throughout the city. While in the Amazon, we eat our meals in the lodges’ restaurants, with the option of always sampling the local cuisine. In the Galapagos Islands, we eat breakfast and dinner (served family-style) at our hotel, and lunch is enjoyed while on our daily excursions throughout the islands. No matter where we are, there is always an option for every type of diet.

Rein Community Service staff members are always present at each service site. - While in Quito and the Amazon, Project Ecuador uses professionally driven buses and vans to transport our participants to their various projects and activities. The flights between Quito and the Galapagos Islands are on regularly scheduled, full-size jet planes. During the Galapagos Islands portion of the program, we utilize professionally captained charter boats to explore the islands.
- Communication
- The Rein Communication Center is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week throughout the program. Teenagers are permitted to bring their cell phones.
