Health History
Prior to the summer, each teenager completes a health history form. We require an up-to-date immunization record, but we do not require a physical exam. Our office team and program directors review each participant’s health history before the start of each tour – when it comes to our teenagers’ health, we leave no stone unturned!
Health Issues on Tour
All efforts are made to keep our teenagers healthy during their tours. In the event a tour member is feeling ill and a visit to a medical facility is required, our staff will take the teenager to a pre-designated medical facility. We rely on a network of local urgent care facilities and hospitals for treatment. The tour leader will make every effort to contact a parent when a doctor’s visit is necessary. We will also contact you from the doctor’s office, so you can discuss the treatment plan with the physician. Our staff will ensure the treatment plan is carried out and when a teenager is sick and must miss an activity, a counselor will always stay back with them. Rein staff members are required to have basic CPR and first aid certification.
Medication
Each tour travels with first aid supplies and over the counter medication. Teenagers are permitted to bring over the counter and prescription medications to their program, as well. We prefer our participants to hold their own medication and to take as prescribed. In certain special instances, a tour staff member is available to hold and dispense medication for a teenager. The specific protocol for this can be discussed with parents prior to the trip.
Medications that require refrigeration can present a challenge on tour. We accept teenagers who require growth hormones or other medications that must be kept cool during the program. When bringing this type of medication, a teenager must bring the medication in an insulated bag with ice packs. Our hotels provide in-room refrigerators, and the medication can be kept cool at each location. Any teenager who is required to take an injection must perform this task for themselves, as our counselors are not permitted to administer injections. A staff member will remind any teenager traveling with medication that requires refrigeration to take the medication upon leaving the hotel and traveling to our next destination. Rein Teen Tours will not be responsible for any lost or damaged medication during the tour, regardless of cause. We encourage parents to discuss with their doctor other options that may be possible for the length of the tour program.
Support Visits
Support visits play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our programs. Our experienced company owners and directors regularly visit our groups throughout the summer to provide on-the-ground oversight, check in with leaders, and address any needs that may arise. These visits allow us to maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and communication, ensuring every detail is being handled effectively. Whether offering guidance to tour leaders, facilitating group dynamics, or simply checking in with the teenagers, our company directors are a constant presence. This hands-on support helps our tours run seamlessly, and that each participant has the best possible experience throughout the trip.
Planning for the Unexpected
The safety and well-being of our participants is our top priority, and we are always prepared to make necessary adjustments to an itinerary if circumstances require. Whether due to unforeseen weather conditions, local safety concerns, or unexpected events, the Rein team is trained to make informed decisions in real-time. If we need to alter the itinerary for safety reasons, we communicate these changes promptly to our families, ensuring everyone is informed of the adjustments. Our summer communication system is designed to update parents quickly and accurately when the unexpected occurs.
We strive to maintain the integrity of the tour experience, but when it comes to safety, we remain flexible and proactive, making changes as needed to provide a secure and enjoyable environment for all. “Safety first” is our mantra! Throughout the summer season, the Rein Teen Tours company directors are ON, twenty-four hours a day. We don’t sleep, so you can!
